  • Book Release: Where the Sky Meets Us

I am thrilled to share that my newest novel, Where the Sky Meets Us, is officially available today. While many of you follow this blog for trail reports and gear talk, this project is special because it combines my passion for the backcountry with my love of storytelling.

    The Story

    She came for the challenge.
He’s found a place to belong.

Where the Sky Meets Us book cover

Melissa planned every mile of her solo backcountry trek with spreadsheets and determination. But the mountain has a way of testing even the best-laid plans, and the rugged wilderness proves more demanding than she ever expected.

Aaron has built a quiet life near the trails he loves, far from the expectations of his past. He wasn’t looking for anything to change, but after meeting Melissa, everything feels different. As he steps in to help her navigate sudden storms and rocky terrain, he realizes that some journeys aren’t meant to be traveled alone.

Together, they’ll face a growing connection that neither of them expected. But as the miles pass, so do the questions. When the trail ends, will they go their separate ways?

    The Gear is Real

For the gear enthusiasts who follow this blog, I wanted the backcountry details to feel authentic. I am especially excited to share that Dan Durston gave me permission to include his tent in the novel. Aaron relies on the X-Mid to get him through his time in the wild. Having that real-world connection to such an iconic piece of equipment made the writing process even more rewarding.

    Fueling the Appalachian Trail Dream

Beyond the story itself, this release marks a significant step toward my own personal goal. Every book sold helps fund my future thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. These proceeds go directly toward my trip expenses and ensuring my home remains taken care of while I am away on the trail. When you pick up a copy, you are helping me get closer to the trailhead of my own dream hike.

    Save Your Pack Weight

Where the Sky Meets Us is available now on Amazon in eBook format and is free for Kindle Unlimited subscribers. While a paperback version is coming soon, I know most of you will prefer the digital version to save on those precious grams of pack weight!

Thank you for being part of this community and for supporting my journey, both on the page and on the trail.

  • How I’m Saving $10,000 for the Appalachian Trail And How You Can Too

If you’ve been following my journey as I plan to hike the Appalachian Trail in two years, you’ll know that saving for the trip is a big part of the process. My goal is to set aside $10,000 over 104 weeks.

Most $10,000 savings plans are designed to be completed in just one year, which can be a heavy hit to your finances. Stretching the goal over two years makes the weekly amounts more manageable and easier to stick with long-term.

To help others on a similar path, I’ve created two free resources you can download:

    • A PDF tracker for those who prefer paper
    • An Excel spreadsheet for those who like to track and customize digitally

    Here’s how they work:

    The PDF
Print it out and follow the columns from top to bottom—or jump around and fill in a square each week. Once all 104 squares are complete, you’ll have $10,000 saved.

    Savings PlannerDownload

    The Excel File
My personal favorite. You can enter the exact amount you save each week, whether it’s a regular deposit or a little extra from unexpected income. The spreadsheet updates automatically, showing you how much you’ve saved and what’s still ahead.

I’m already nearly $3,000 into my savings goal and staying on track.

Whether you’re planning a long-distance hike or just want a slower, more flexible way to save, I hope these tools help you along the way.
